Engaging Paintshop Quality Engineers to Prove a Perfect Final
Job Description
Duties:
Standard Development: Create and uphold quality standards for pretreatment, final coating layers (CED, primer, and topcoat), and surface preparation.
Surface Inspection: Carefully examine the surface for flaws including dust nibs, orange peel, pinholes, craters, and color mismatch (metamerism).
Laboratory Testing: Conduct and supervise important quality tests such as impact resistance, gloss level monitoring, cross-hatch adhesion, and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measurement.
Chemical Analysis: Verify that bath characteristics such as conductivity, pH, and ash content satisfy the requirements of the chemical supplier by routinely auditing the PT/CED lab results.
Durability Validation: To guarantee anti-corrosive qualities, oversee long-term quality tests such UV resistance, humidity chamber exposure, and salt spray testing.
Root Cause Analysis: Use 8D or Fishbone approaches to conduct investigations into high rejection rates and put remedial measures in place to stabilize the process.
Focus Skills:
Metrology Proficiency: Proficiency with chemical titration apparatus, DFT meters, gloss meters, and spectrophotometers.
Defect Identification: a thorough understanding of paint-related flaws and the capacity to discern between material failures and application mistakes.
Standards Knowledge: Knowledge of international standards pertaining to paints & coatings, such as ASTM, ISO (such as ISO 2409), or DIN.
The ability to examine Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts to spot patterns in color drift or thickness variations is known as data literacy.
Excellent visual acuity to spot minute surface flaws under intense inspection lights is a sign of attention to detail.
