The Gaumukh Gangotri trek » is a scenic hike in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand from Gangotri to Gaumukh, the origin of the Bhagirathi River. The Gaumukh is a peak within Gangotri National Park and is located at about 4,000 m, and is some 34 km from Gangotri on foot. The road traverses through Chirbasa, Bhojbasa and includes some awesome glaciers, snow-capped peaks, and pine forests and the Bhagirathi River along the way. It's a spiritual and adventurous path for nature lovers, pilgrims, and experienced and skilled hiker. Forest permits and proper mountain gear and preparation are paramount for trekkers.
