CNC Programmer From CAD to Code to Career Progress
Job Description
Duties:
Program Development: Use CAM software to develop, test, and improve CNC programs for 3-, 4-, or 5-axis machines.
Toolpath Optimization: To shorten cycle times and prolong the life of costly cutting tools, choose the most effective cutting patterns and techniques.
G-Code/M-Code Manual Editing: To make real-time modifications for material variations or tool wear, read and manually edit code at the machine controller.
Tooling & Fixture Selection: To guarantee part stability during high-speed machining, choose the best cutting tools (carbide inserts, end mills, drills) and create unique work-holding fixtures.
Simulation & Verification: Before the program reaches the shop floor, conduct "dry runs" and virtual simulations to find any possible tool collisions or interference.
Setup Documentation: Create comprehensive "Setup Sheets" that include zero-point coordinates, tool lists, and clamping guidelines for CNC operators.
Focus Skills:
CAM Mastery: Excellent command of programs like Fusion 360, SolidCAM, Mastercam, and PowerMill.
Technical literacy: Proficient in using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and deciphering intricate blueprints.
