Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a non-immigrant (work) permit which enables international F-1 visitors to work in their area of study in the U.S. during a period as long as 12 months. Graduates with STEM could be allowed a 24 months extension. OPT may be applied either during or after graduation with 90 percent of students applying to post-completion OPT.

Students will also have an opportunity of having work experience in place of study when given the OPT and this increases their chances in employment.
